BOI okays P1-b Cebu shipyard

The Board of Investments has approved the P1.04-billion shipbuilding project of Colorado Shipyard Corp. in Consolacion, Cebu. The local company proposes to build five vessels for export per year and plans to hire 820 workers, starting commercial operations in early 2009. The project involves the manufacture of landing craft, or draft vessels that can land on beaches and shallow bodies of water. The company also proposes to construct roll-on, roll-off vessels as well as double-hulled, double-bottom vessels. The company is teaming up with Harwood Sleepways Private Ltd. and Sheerforce Maritime Service for design, and Sanko Marine Pty Ltd. of Singapore for marketing.
